Nic Newling is an outspoken advocate for mental health and suicide prevention. Having lived through the personal experience of suffering with a mood disorder throughout high school and losing his brother to suicide, he has since dedicated himself to changing the way mental illness is addressed in schools and communities.
Nic Newling speaks to people around Australia about his personal experience with mental illness in an effort to help make a positive difference. He also works on BITE BACK, the national wellbeing and Mental Fitness program for young people created by the Black Dog Institute in Sydney.
He currently lives with a magician and a popcorn machine.
Jayne Newling, Nic's mum, authored a memoir titled Missing Christopher. It is the story of her journey through inconsolable grief after the death of her teenage son, Nic's brother, Christopher.
